Bernanke Briefings to Address Transparency

Ben Bernanke:

Chairman to choose his words with care

April-26-2011-- WASHINGTON - When Ben Bernanke makes history today as the first Federal Reserve chief to begin a series of regular news conferences, his tasks will be simple.

The historic news conference, the first of three this year, is part of a long-standing Bernanke campaign to make the central bank more transparent and publicly accessible.

The Fed is expected to say that its benchmark rate will remain near zero and that its $600 billion Treasury bond-buying program will end in June as planned.

The bond-buying program was intended to encourage spending and boost growth.

But critics say it's raised the risk of high inflation.

Heavy Rain Prompts Flood Concerns in Mo., Ky.

Towns along Mississippi,

Ohio River valleys prepare

April-25-2011--POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Thunder roared and tornado warning sirens blared, and all emergency workers in the southeast Missouri town of Poplar Bluff could do Monday was hope the saturated levee holding back the Black River would survive yet another downpour.

Murky water flowed over the levee at more than three dozen spots and crept toward homes in the flood plain,

Some had already flooded.

If the levee broke — and forecasters said it was in imminent danger of doing so —

some 7,000 residents in and around Poplar Bluff would be displaced.

George Soros NEW WORLD ORDER! China must be brought in! Orderly Decline ...

WORLD FOREX:

Dollar Edges Lower As Market Awaits Fed Meeting

April-25-2011--NEW YORK --The dollar edged slightly lower on Monday as investors refrained from betting aggressively for or against the US currency ahead of a key Federal Reserve policy meeting this week.

The dollar's contained moves reflected how much negative news the beleaguered currency has already priced in and how likely the unit would be to rebound if the Fed gave a surprisingly hawkish assessment of the economy. Concerns about the U.S. fiscal outlook and ultra-loose monetary policy have made the dollar an unattractive alternative to higher-yielding currencies such as the euro and pound.

But in markets still thinned by the Easter holiday, traders largely refrained from driving the dollar to new multi-year lows against most major currencies.

Obama: New Task Force Will Examine Gas Prices

Obama talks deficit voters gas prices

April-21-2011--Obama has touched on the issue of gas prices at each stop on the West Coast.

President Barack Obama’s attempt to sell his deficit-cutting plan is slowly being crowded out by another more pressing issue:

rising gasoline prices.

On a two-day trip through Nevada and California, Obama has devoted more and more of his time to address fears that many Americans could soon pay $5 a gallon — a prospect that holds significant peril for the White House and his reelection chances if it halts the nascent economic recovery

“We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short-term gain,”

Obama said at ElectraTherm, a small renewable-energy company.
