Egypt protesters call for postponement of elections
Nov-23-2011--Egyptian protesters want elections scheduled for Monday to be postponed and a council of elders to replace the military rulers who on Wednesday again sent in security forces to quell demonstrating crowds.
The current protests are seen as a second -- and decisive -- phase of the January revolution that led to the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak.
In the symbolic heart of the revolution, Tahrir Square, demonstrators were chanting the same slogans used 11 months ago, but this time directing them at the interim military ruler,
"If the wheels of democracy move on Egypt and this problem is still here, then democracy will have failed,"

After 5 days,
no break in Egypt's turmoil
Nov-23-2011-CAIRO -With a milestone election just five days away, Egypt showed no sign Wednesday of recovering from a spasm of violence that has wrecked the campaign period and spiraled into a rebellion that now threatens the ruling military council's grip on the nation.
The bloodshed continued for a fifth consecutive day despite international appeals for calm and limited concessions put forth by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to address demands that it transfer power to a civilian transitional authority immediately.
The council ceded no new ground, however, and nobody could say for sure how to rescue a country whose uprising against authoritarianism had captured the world's imagination and inspired other Arab revolts.
"We're crying out for freedom," "They're treating the Egyptian people like cows, like we don't understand anything. So we must send a message: This is our revolution, and it's not finished yet."

Homeless Fill America's Streets
Nov-23-2011--The world is now seeing the economic uncertainty of the U.S. but for many Americans, it has been apparent for quite some time. Economic despair has been spreading across our nation and it can be seen by the rising number of middle class Americans losing their homes. In some cases, joblessness and inability to pay rent has forced people to live in their cars, shelters, or on the sidewalk.

Weak Bond Sale Tests
Germany’s Stature in Crisis
Nov-23-2011--FRANKFURT — Germany’s stature as an island of stability in the European debt crisis was shaken Wednesday when it fell far short of selling all the government bonds it put up for auction.
Investors are beginning to question whether there are any havens left in Europe after German bonds, which the government uses to raise money for operations, got a surprisingly bad reception.

WORLD FOREX: Euro Sags After Italy's Bond Yields Spike Above 7% ------------------------------------- Nov-15-2011--

WORLD FOREX:
Euro Sags After Italy's Bond Yields Spike Above 7%
Nov-15-2011--NEW YORK - Italy's soaring government bond yields pushed the euro close to a one-month low Tuesday, with initial optimism over the country's new leadership overtaken by fear that Europe's debt crisis is entering a perilous new phase. Fears are rampant that problems roiling the euro zone's most troubled members are now leapfrogging to larger economies. In an indication of market jitters, the difference between French and German government yields has widened recently, with the cost of insuring against euro zone debt default surging to new highs for other euro zone members such as Austria and the Netherlands.

To Put Europe Back on Track
Try Listening to Voters
Nov-15-2011-- The European Union may not come through its current troubles in one piece.
But if it does, it will need to engage, this time seriously, with fundamental questions that were raised and too quickly dismissed in the years before the euro was created.
Even in the midst of the crisis, it isn’t too soon to start this exercise. To mend the euro system, Europe must understand what went wrong and remember why it created the single currency in the first place. It must ask whether flaws that are now so apparent were intrinsic to the enterprise or avoidable errors that can be corrected.

Nov-15-2011--Syria's instability defies estimates of how many still stand behind President Assad, but this was a weekend demonstration by his supporters.
The powerful minority Alawis would be among them - with the top military and intelligence positions in their hands -- Assad their chief -- and key portions of Syria's middle class. But their country's suspension by the Arab League has increased their isolation.

Europe to Israel:

Military strike on Iran nuclear program not an option

NOV-15-2011--Iran and Israel are still issuing incendiary comments in response to the release of the Iran nuclear report. European leaders are pushing for harsher sanctions instead of a military strike.

A week after world leaders urged Israel to tone down its heated rhetoric on Iran, European leaders are again urging caution as Iran begins to react to the international community's stern words and threats, led by Israel.

The International Atomic Energy Agency last week released a report on Iran's nuclear program that said intelligence indicated that the intentions of the program may not be entirely peaceful.

The leak of the report was followed by a flurry of threats and warnings from Israel – and a concerted effort from world leaders to dial down the conversation.

Will FHA be the next big government bailout?
Nov-15-2011--NEW YORK - Continued trouble in the housing market has further eroded the Federal Housing Administration's reserves, leaving it with a very thin cushion to protect it against future financial losses. And should housing values continue to plummet, the agency may have to turn to taxpayers for a bailout, according to its annual report, which was released Tuesday. The agency's reserves fell to 0.24% in fiscal 2011, down from 0.5% the year earlier, according to independent estimates in the report. This ratio measures the net worth of the reserve fund compared with the value of the loans FHA has insured.
If home prices continue to drop in the coming year, the agency's losses could exceed its reserves, forcing it to either seek a bailout from the Treasury Department .

US Postal Service
takes $5bn loss, warns of more
Nov-15-2011--WASHINGTON -The US Postal Service on Tuesday reported a $5.1 billion loss for fiscal 2011 and warned of more trouble if has to meet obligations to pay into a retiree health benefits program.
The USPS, government-owned but expected to operate on its own financial legs, said the year-end loss would have been $10.6 billion had it not been for legislation that postponed a congressionally mandated payment of $5.5 billion to pre-fund retiree health benefits.
Hit by falling revenues from lower mail volumes and a sizable historical debt burden, the USPS said it remains weak and unable to honor huge commitments to fund its retirement programs.
Revenue fell to $65.7 billion for the fiscal year that ended September 30 from $67.0 billion a year earlier.
The service's net loss dropped to $5.1 billion from $8.5 billion in 2010.

Nov-04-2011--NEW YORK -- Global stocks and the euro fell on Friday as new doubts about Europe's bailout package and worries over the outcome of a key vote in Greece overshadowed signs of an improving US labor market. Stock sectors most exposed to weakness in European banks and tied to growth, such as industrials, financials, materials and energy, were among the weakest.
"There's too much uncertainty going on.
What Greece has taught us this week is that just when you think things are certain, they're actually not," said Camilla Sutton,

US Payrolls Rose 80000 in October;
Jobless Rate Fell to 9%
NOV-04-2011-- US employment climbed in October at the slowest pace in four months, illustrating the “frustratingly slow” progress cited by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke this week.
The crisis in Europe and looming deadline on U.S. budget talks may be prompting companies to hold back on concern failure to reach resolutions will put the global recovery at risk. Fed policy makers project the jobless rate won’t drop under 8 percent until 2013 at the earliest, one reason why Bernanke this week said additional stimulus “remains on the table.”

Fed Lowers Its Forecast for Growth, but Takes No Steps --------------------- Nov-02-2011

Fed Lowers Its Forecast for Growth,
but Takes No Steps
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke at a news conference in Washington,
Nov-02-2011-- The Federal Reserve significantly reduced its forecast of economic growth over the next two years, the latest in a long series of acknowledgements that the recovery from the 2008 financial crisis is taking much longer than it had expected.
“We have taken a lot of actions.
"Let me be very clear that the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy is highly accommodative now,” He also drew a contrast between the Fed’s actions and the performance of Congress and the president in addressing the nation’s unemployment crisis.
“I think it would be helpful if we could get assistance from other parts of the government to help create more jobs,”
Mr. Bernanke said.
